Zip tie RFID tag system and web version ideas

After reviewing the current workflow, I’ve noticed that searching for the Global ID is not very efficient. It would be extremely helpful if an additional searchable column could be added, similar to the existing Onix ID field but dedicated to the RFID ID or Zip RFID Tag. For users who manage a large amount of equipment, the current search method is quite complicated and very time‑consuming. Many companies rely heavily on the zip‑tie tag system, so improving this functionality would make the process much easier and more efficient for everyone.

Regarding the web version of Onix, it would be very beneficial if users could add or assign new tags directly from the web interface. At the moment, it seems that new zip tags can only be assigned through the mobile app (Works and Inspect). Ideally, the web version should include the same functionality as the app, such as an icon to access a scanner or NFC dongle, so that both platforms offer a consistent and complete user experience. I’ve attached a screenshot showing where such an icon could be placed to help illustrate how the web version could mirror the app more closely.

Thank you for considering these improvements. I believe they would make the system significantly more user‑friendly for all users.

Hi @Kevin_Michael ,
Thank you for the product ideas! We will take them into consideration when planning future releases.

To better understand the second point, could you elaborate on the scenarios in which you would use Onix Work to connect equipment to tags, rather than using Onix Worker or Inspect?

Hi Nabil!

Thank you for responding and taking my idea into consideration.
Hopefully it will happen so it will help a lot of users :slightly_smiling_face:

We don’t always work on tablets; in many cases we’re working directly from a computer. For example, in the equipment room where we store and issue equipment we use a computer because it’s integrated with our internal systems. When we’re already working on the computer and notice that a piece of equipment is missing an RFID tag or has a damaged one, it would be much more efficient to pair a new tag directly in Onix Work.
Right now, the web version doesn’t allow us to pair zip‑tie tags. So if an RFID needs to be replaced, we have to stop what we’re doing, go find a tablet, log into the internal system, connect the scanner, and then open Onix Inspect just to pair a new tag. This process is slow, interrupts the workflow, and isn’t very streamlined.
Being able to connect equipment to tags directly in Onix Work would save time and make the process much smoother when we’re already working on a computer.

Thank you for the explanation, Kevin!

The reason Onix Work does not support scanning is that it is a web application, which makes it challenging to communicate with devices connected to a local computer. That said, we will definitely explore potential solutions to address this challenge in the future.

As an alternative, we offer a small tag that contains a Global ID. The tag is very compact and can be securely attached to the equipment using a zip tie. It combines both RFID and a QR code. Would this be a solution that could help address your challenges?

No problem, Nabil!
The RFID scanner we use is a Bluetooth device that functions as a HID input. Because of that, it essentially works like a keyboard and can type the RFID code directly into any input field.
That’s why I believe it would be much easier and more efficient to simply add a new column where the RFID code can be entered using the scanner.
By adding this column, you would also remove the need for the extra “pair” button, since the scanner can input the code automatically without any additional steps.

Sorry but the tag that you sent me is way to big for a lot of our equipment and can’t be used.

Thank you, Kevin!

This is the direction I’m leaning toward as well, based on the challenges outlined above.
I’ll share updates in this post as things progress.

Perfect, Nabil!

I’m hoping this will be implemented as well, it would solve a lot of the issues we’ve been facing.
Thanks for keeping us updated as things move forward.
