[FAQ] Why can’t I delete a location?

If you try to delete a location in Onix Work and receive the error message “This location is in use and cannot be deleted!”, this means the location is still linked to one or more records in your account.

What should I do?

If a location is no longer needed, set it to inactive instead of deleting it.

  1. Go to Onix Work > Settings > Locations.
  2. Select the unwanted location.
  3. Scroll down to Info section.
  4. Clear the Active checkbox.
  5. Click Save.

This preserves historical data while preventing the location from being used for new records.

Why does this happen even if no equipment is assigned to it?

A location can be used by different records:

  • Equipment
  • Jobs, including filed jobs
  • Orders
  • Projects
  • Other records that use locations

For example, an inspection job that was previously filed may still reference the location in its job details. Since filed jobs are historical records and cannot be deleted or edited, the location remains in use. Onix system therefore prevents you from deleting the location.

Can Onix delete the location for me?

If the location is still referenced by historical or protected records, it should generally not be deleted because doing so could break the relationship between the location and those records.

If you believe the location is incorrectly marked as being in use, contact Onix Support (support@onix.com) with the location name and a screenshot of the error message. We can help identify what is preventing the deletion.
