Keep your Onix account secure with two-factor authentication

To help protect your account and personal information, Onix strongly recommends turning on two-factor authentication (2FA). 2FA adds a second layer of security by requiring both your password and a code from an authenticator app on your mobile device. This article explains how 2FA works, how to set it up, and what to do if you can’t access your account with 2FA.

About two-factor authentication (2FA) for Onix accounts

What is 2FA in Onix accounts

Two-factor authentication (2FA) helps prevent unauthorized access to your Onix account. When 2FA is enabled, signing in requires both your password and a time-sensitive code from an authenticator app, such as Microsoft Authenticator or Google Authenticator. This code typically changes every 30 seconds, and only someone with access to your mobile device can generate it.

Even if someone has your password, they can’t sign in without the verification code from your device.

What to expect with 2FA enabled

You’ll be asked for a verification code the first time you sign in on a new device or after changing your password. You can then choose to trust the device, so you won’t be asked for a verification code again on that device for 30 days.

Important notes

Keep your mobile device with you

After you turn on 2FA, you’ll need your mobile device each time you sign in on a new device or browser. The authenticator app on your phone generates the 6-digit code required to complete sign-in. Without it, you need extra steps to get the temporary acess code sent via email to sign in.

Avoid sharing your Onix account with other people

Two-factor authentication is linked to your personal device. If you share your Onix account with others, they will not be able to sign in unless they also have access to your mobile device and authenticator app. This can cause access issues and reduce account security.

You won’t need to verify every time

Many people worry that 2FA will slow them down, but you can choose to skip verification on devices you use often. After that, 2FA is only required when you sign in on a new device, browser, or after changing your password.

The extra security works because someone trying to break into your account is likely not using your phone. Without the authenticator app on your phone, they can’t get in.

Skip 2FA setup for 14 days

You can skip 2FA setup temporarily, but Onix will remind you again every 14 days. We strongly recommend setting it up as soon as possible.

Set up two-factor authentication

This guide uses Microsoft Authenticator as an example, but any TOTP (time-based one-time password) app will work. Onix does not endorse any specific product.

  1. Access any Onix app and go to the sign-in page.
  2. Enter your email address and password.
  3. On the Keep your account secure page, select Start setup.
  4. Install an authenticator app on your mobile device.
  5. Open the authenticator app and scan the QR code shown on the Onix sign-in page. If you can’t scan the code, copy and paste the text code into the authenticator app.
  6. On the Onix sign-in page, select Continue.
  7. In your authenticator app, find the 6-digit verification code.
  8. Enter the verification code on the Onix sign-in page > Select Verify to complete setup.

Sign in with 2FA

After you set up two-factor authentication, you’ll need your authenticator app each time you sign in on a new or untrusted device.

  1. Go to the sign-in page.
  2. Enter your email address and password > Select Sign in.
  3. Open your authenticator app > Enter the verification code from the authenticator app into the Onix sign-in page.
  4. Select Verify to complete the Onix sign-in process.

To avoid entering a code every time, you can select Don’t ask again on this device for 30 days. Use this option only on devices you trust.

If you can’t access your authenticator app

In case you can’t get a code from your authenticator app, you can request a temporary access code by email.

  1. On the Enter verification code screen, select Try another way.
  2. Check your email for a temporary access code.
  3. Enter the temporary access code on the Onix sign-in page and select Verify.

If you don’t receive the email, check your spam folder or follow this guide for help.
